Background
FAS introduced new perforation detectors in 2014, a joint development with Simco where the electrode heads (1Mohm) are designed for FAS. The detectors have performed very well, incorrect handling and settings has been the root cause for most the few complaints we have received.

General
The Simco perforation detectors works with high accuracy and with good life time if they are set and maintained according the suppliers instructions. With lower power setting the life time can be expected to be longer.

Installation

1. The plastic screws shall be tightened by means of fingers only, no tools shall be used

2. Check that the plastic washer between the housing and the bracket is in place, this is valid even if the holder is made of plastic (lower picture)

3. The unit shall be set parallel and at 2-4 mm distance from the neutral shaft

The unit shall not touch the film.

Operation

With lower power setting the life time is increased. Reduce the power setting until the led stops flashing, then increase the power by using the potentiometer until you have a stable detection.
The Operator panel might be looking different depending on machine type.

Make sure the electrodes are clean
Make sure the neutral shaft is clean
Make sure the film is not touching the detector

Sparks are often not visible with this unit, the green led on the unit is flashing red when a perforation is detected.

Maintenance

• Disconnect the power supply before carrying out work on the unit.

• The electrode head is the only component of the unit that requires maintenance. If needed, clean it by use of a soft non-metal brush
– If very dirty, clean with isopropyl alcohol or with Veconova 10 industrial cleaner
– Make sure the unit is completely dry before operating it againolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Vivamus sagittis nisi eu justo ullamcorper laoreet.
